Occasionally, the assessor or his/her representative may
need to enter onto land to update information to
establish a fair tax assessment value for each property.
No entry into a building or dwelling will ever be made
without consent. However, entry onto lands,
including lands around buildings is assumed, unless
written notice is provided to the assessor. If an
assessor is not allowed access for viewing property, an
owner cannot contest the level of assessment set by the
assessor.
(Sec. 70.47(7)(aa) of WI Stats. Open
Book
After the assessor completes the assessment roll, the
tax roll is available for examination. This is an
opportunity for taxpayers to discuss their assessment in
an informal setting with the assessor.
Board of Review
If you are still unhappy with your assessment,
you may appeal to this board which is comprised of local
officials. Watch the local newspaper for notice of
both open book and board of review or call the clerk for
more information. |
